Betfair said live in-running betting had transformed the betting landscape in the UK where it now accounts for some 18% of all bets placed on UK horseracing, with similar success in Europe.
"As Betfair’s Australian horseracing market depth and popularity continues to grow, the in-running product now promises to deliver similar benefits to customers betting on Australian horseracing," said the company.
From Saturday, Australian punters will have the ability to bet right up to the winning post, which Betfair says will create a completely new aspect of horseracing and bring excitement to the Australian betting landscape that did not previously exist.
Betfair Australia’s CEO Anthony Klok said: “The in-running product will be a boon for the racing industry. With the concept comes a host of new ways to bet, stimulating interest in racing.
“We’ve been looking forward to offering this product to Australian punters on our local product for some time. Evidence from the UK suggests it’s a favourite with the punters and ultimately a great driver of interest in horseracing.”
