Last week in the US House of Representatives for H.R. 5767, a hearing has taken place concerning the bill, proposed by Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA) and Sen. Ron Paul (R-TX), which has as the object to block the implementation of regulations of the UIGEA. The powerful Financial Services Committee will hold this hearing. The same committee already heard testimony regarding online gambling itself.
The implementation has been hindered with a strong resistance by America’s banking segment. They consider the implementation as unworkable. America’s banking segment would be forced to take some judgemental duties that regard potentially tagged transactions. The phrase Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act isn’t really clear and that’s why one amendment to H.R. 5767 wanted a clear definition of an unlawful Internet gambling. Now the bill proposed by Frank and Paul, seeks to address, they want to block the implementation of the UIGEA until proper legal definition is out by legislators.
A delay of the implementation of the UIGEA can cost the United States additional time as it negotiates with many countries concerning the American citizens’ access to online gambling services.
