Online Casino games and the WTO: Antigua Vs United States!

We have to remember 2007 like the year with the most impact on Online Casino Games and U.S.A. players.

The World Trade Organization (WTO) dispute between Antigua and the United States has been playing out for years.

But Antigua, just days after the U.S. settlement with Europe, Japan, and Canada, won a compesation awards of US$21 million per year from the United States for losses in a long-running trade dispute caused by the American ban on Internet gambling.

The U.S. had two options, either stop remote gambling domestically or allow Antigua to freely provide gambling services to Americans.

2007 was the year where America had to decide how it was going to abide by the WTO decision.

Washington, instead of bringing its laws in line with WTO rules, announced in May this year it would withdraw gambling and the internet online casino from the services it opened up under a 1994 world trade deal.

So the tens of billions the U.S. government is paying to settle the trade dispute is not only to preserve the gambling ban, it's to preserve the congressionally-granted monopoly on online wagering for interests with more political clout than poker players.

The decision was clearly far lower than most in the gambling world were expecting, but the permission to override copyrights and patents could prove to be far more lucrative than any amount of compensation in other forms.

We have to remember... the truth!
